Freethought Internet acquires Peartree Media

It seems I only update this blog after an acquisition (and hope for plenty more!) but I’m relieved to announce that I’ve left the web hosting world after selling Peartree Media to Freethought Internet.

A brief history

Leaving school at 18 I was dying to get into the real world of computing and university was the last thing on my mind. I landed a job in web hosting as a systems engineer at Ultraspeed through a friend, and astonishingly they trained me up from scratch and paid me from day one. This was an unbelievable starting point for me and couldn’t thank them enough.

Keen to make a difference I decided to start my own hosting company and Market Hosting was born. About 3 years later I merged this into Peartree/Pearspace, another similar sized hosting company in order to run all technical operations (and later become MD). By early 2013, the additional partners/shareholders had been bought out, which coincided with Brisk now needing my full time and attention.

I had been working with Freethought for the last couple of years (all my equipment was hosted with them and they helped out with running the business when I was away, or down the pub..). They knew my business well and I knew they could handle the customers perfectly, so they were actually the only company I approached for the sale (my moral side took over the business side of me here!). The transition is going smoothly and I hope the best success for Freethought and my (ex-)customers.

Edward Dore, Director at Freethought on the acquisition said this morning:

We think that the Peartree business is a perfect fit for us as we offer a similar set of services and share a common approach to providing great customer service. We already host a significant amount of the Peartree Media infrastructure, which will minimise the disruption to our new customers during the integration. I have been working with Nick for some time now and wish him well in his future endeavours.

Over the course of the next few weeks we’ll will work to bring some of the great features of Freethought to our new customers at Peartree Media, Pearspace and Market Hosting. This starts and first and foremost with the unification of our support teams so we can immediately start offering the level of impeccable service a Freethought Internet customer quickly comes to expect.
